Lexicon, week 2 (first go round)

The image is a bit hard to read (click for larger version), so I’ve transcribed the full list below. Feel free to reference any of the terms from the list in describing/outlining/reflecting on these three:

process

environment

technology

Keep in mind that we’re not looking for strict definitions, though these are often comfortable places to start. Try to articulate how/if/why these terms might be resonating with you at the moment, and make connections to readings (in this class, or others), exercises, or practical applications. There is no “right” way to build the lexicon here, so do not feel pressured to do so. The only thing to remember is that you should append your thoughts as a comment on this post!

As promised, the full list (minus the three above):

communication

contrapuntal

mass media

cabal

identity

audience

paradigm

interpersonal

organization

genre

presentation

engagement

  1. Process ~ In doing. In moving. In organizing a series of operations to achieve an end. Process is as process does. A roundup of steps to take, either alone or in a team, to change; shift; create a product or idea.

Environment ~ That which surrounds or embodies an individual, a group of people, or flora and fauna. The circumstances one might find themselves surrounded with. That which effects the growth, production, or any dynamic factor that contributes to a living being.

Technology ~ An advancement of what was. The use of innovation to move ‘what is’ forward into the future. An understanding of creation to make the world a better, easier, safer place to be.

  2. These are some tough words to distinctively define. I’m going to reflect what first comes to my mind about these terms.
Process – Everyone has experienced a process or procedure before. Whether it the creative process, scientific process, legal process, and/or business process. There are so many ways to think about how we use process in our daily routines. I think you might be using a process to read this definition or using a process to write your own responses. In the reading by Marika Luders, I think she really challenges our idea of process using social media. Is it public or is it personal? Should there be a process to post things on your page or a company’s page? These maybe indirect interpretation of the work but she does point out the how we need to make sure we are aware of what kinds of social media is being used and how it is a mass media. (By the way, she is on LinkedIn). For me, process is can be creative. It is something used to help reach a goal or a product. This is what most definitions say is process except adding the word “end.” I wouldn’t agree that all procedures reach an end. The process keeps going in most fields. Take an artist or designer. They may reach a point where they are done with a painting, performance, or design. The process can keep going if their style, story, or logo inspires other artists or designers with another work. Like the word art, process can have multiple layers of meaning. Just like these other two words.
Environment – This word reminds me of the invisible environment conversation we had in our first week of class. I kept thinking about this word last weekend too. I kept wondering, what is my environment? Well, my environment includes the people around me like my son, husband, and the people I connect with every day. I also reflected how drastically my environment has changed with moving to Oregon. Again, I was not considering this invisible environment that we got from last week’s readings. Using technology everyone has a huge environment. We are in a global environment by using social media and mass media. This global environment has helped us connect everyone with subjects of conversations and similar interests. That is what I consider to be environment.
Technology – Wow. I cannot define the word technology. The first thing that comes to my mind are computers, internet, TV, and printers. Technology is so much more than that. I think tool and technology could go hand-in-hand. Technology can be pens, paint brushes or any device. All in all I think technology can be any tool to help with a process. Or it can create new processes and environments.

  3. Defining the word process by going through the readings as well as the class discussion has lead me to believe that the word process does not necessarily lead to an end goal. Many times when I think of the word “process” I think that “this must be something that leads to a finished product or service”. But talking about it in a marketing and media sense, I see the word “process” more as an ongoing ladder where new developments or discoveries can be made. In the Luders article it is mentioned how certain forms of technology didn’t even exist 20 years ago, and the process that other people went through then, is completely different as to what happens now. That is to say though that 20 years ago, those same people went through and are continuing a process to develop new technological methods and discoveries.

In relation to the word “process” that I just talked about, I will now bring up the definition of “technology” that I believe has come out of class discussion as well as class readings. Technology can take on many different forms, but what the definition means to me is something that is not as rigid as simply a computer programming system or an electronic device. Technology, I believe, grants access to copious amount of information and gives people the ability to create and share different kinds of information or ideas as well. It is a resources of sorts that allows interaction with the online world as well as working in the real world.

Finally, what I believe that define or describe the word “environment” are a couple of different things. Environment can be the audience that you are targeting when trying out a different marketing strategy or creating an exhibit. Examples of this can be seen in the Robin William’s design book “The Non-Designer’s Design Book in the chapter where he talks about alignment and speaks to the idea of the kind of message that you are trying to send to your viewer and that you must convey professionalism in one way or another. Environment can also be the people and tools you work with and around. The environment you work in can also shape the work that you do. I also believe that the word “environment” can speak to more figurative or abstract ideas as well. What I mean by this is that you can be working in a high pressure atmosphere that demands that your work be done quickly and that quality be good, or you could be set up in an environment that gives you free reign over everything you do.

  4. Process-

Google’s dictionary defines process as “a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.” This definition really applies to this class in a variety of ways. On the surface, designers have to go through a process to come to a good design, and marketers have to go through a process to come up with a marketing plan (which itself is a process). In Luders’ article about personal media, he often talks about communication as a process as well, which gives the feeling that communication is not just a singular idea, but rather a set of steps that guides and determines our interaction with media and the world. From that, process is something dynamic and interpersonal: we all take steps together to communicate but there are so many different ways to get to the desired end.

    Environment-

Again, trusty Google tells us that an environment is “the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates.” To me, the most important word in that definition is “operates.” That broadens the meaning into not only what is around us, but also the places in which we work, play, and create. Mcluhan’s article on invisible environments, he introduces the idea that new technology creates new environments. With operation in mind, that statement means a lot because any advent in technology essentially creates a whole world in which people can work, play, and create. Sometimes these “operating environments” bleed into the “living environments” (e.g. the ubiquity of smart phones) and change that landscape of how we live.

    Technology-

Google’s technology definitions are (ironically) not all that helpful, but I think that technology plays into the previous two words significantly. Technology is a tool that allows processes to be developed and carried out in certain ways. Like I said in the prior definition, technology also facilitates the creation of new environments. At one point, I think technology had a more specific definition, but I think these days it can be a tool like I said earlier, it can be an environment or a process, it can be a platform that helps or hinders a certain action, it can be a focus or a distraction. Most importantly, I think technology has the potential to be a huge change agent, and McLuhan and Luders both corroborate this by arguing in different ways that the game is different now because of technology and it will keep on changing. In the end, maybe technology can be described as a mover or a re-arranger that keeps our environments and processes in a constant state of change.

  5. Process, to me, has a multifaceted meaning. In terms of communication, it can mean the natural flow of a conversation, the development of a thought, or the resolution of conflict or issue. It also can be used to describe the artistic or creative process. It can even be used to reference the development of this lexicon.
Depending on the context in which it is being used, process can have an infinite number of meanings and uses. Similarly to process, progress can in many ways be used interchangeably. The process of the development of an idea, and the progress of that idea or thought in motion.

Technology, in direct relation to our classes and discussion topics, can almost be understood as a platform for the basis of the vast majority our communication. Technology has a direct affect on our interpersonal communication skills, as referenced in the Lüders article. So much of today’s conversations and communications take place via technology (email, social and personal media, sms and mms). Technology has become an essential tool in how we communicate with each other and with the world. It has opened up so many doors that were once shut to the common person. However, when these communication doorways open, often they have the ability to shut some of our other communication windows.

Environment is another multifaceted topic to define. We are constantly surrounded by our environments, but in many ways, there are these sub-environments that we also engage in and engage with. There is my physical environment, the one around me, where I can touch, see, sense, hear and feel things around me. But as I sit here, I am also interacting with another environment within the scope of my computer, a virtual environment for lack of a better term. Constantly, within our physical environments, and our virtual environments, we are bombarded with information, messages, technology, advertisements, and other forms of media.

Technology has the ability to be the bridge between some of these environments that we live in (both physical and virtual), and process is the way to form those communicational bridges.

  6. What is the Process? When I think of process, I think of steps and story boards. I think of visualizing the outcome. Environments vary from day to day. If I needed to analyze an environment, I would think of the day to day full time work experience. I know that every day I go to work, there is a process in the way I do my work. However, I do it automatically without thinking about each step. It actually amazes me sometimes when I am working, since I am pulled in so many different directions on a computer at work.
After reading “McCluhan’s. M – Invisible Environment”, it really made me pause and think about our technological world we live in. I communicate electronically all day long. It’s no wonder I love to get up and pick up the phone to talk to a “real” person or love to get up out of my chair and “engage” in a real conversation with someone in the building. This connection seems foreign to some colleagues in the workplace. It’s as if we’re interrupting each other and or it’s an inconvenience. It’s like we have become so used to the identity of how our technological personalities operate. I am intrigued by what McCluhan’s says about “Our youngsters today are mainly confronted with the problem of just growing up – that is our new work – and it is total. We are surrounded by a new environment, of integrated tasks, integrated knowledge, and that demands pattern recognition. The kind of contrast between these two situations creates an absurdity that has launched the theatre of the absurd.” I have become my own environment. Therefore, I think it’s important to re-invent my personal response to my environment. Technology appears to be changing constantly. I am finding it challenging to stay on top of these changes. How do we stay on top of all these changes and remain dynamic in an environment where we are expected to work quickly and creatively? Yet sometimes we don’t get the opportunity to be creative. These are important issues when working in a job that has a variety of tasks and yet very little process. I think this is where organization is very important in a company and that teamwork comes together as well. The skills I am learning in my current job have prepared me to learn about leadership, yet I know I can benefit from learning more technological skills, understanding the environment and how I process new information.

  7. Process for me is the series of steps taken to accomplish an objective. A process can be complicated or simple, have multiple phases (steps) or few, can be efficient or inefficient. In the world of communication and media, it is best to have a laser focused message that says everything that needs to be said in the shortest amount of dynamic words. There is a process for creating this visual or textual message, for communicating it effectively, and for the consumer/producer to then take on the role of processing it and doing what they will with it. A good message in marketing maintains its integrity and meaning throughout the entire communication process – whether that be symmetrical or asymmetrical as discussed by Luder. I also like how McCluhan discusses the consumer of news who has determined twelve stories from a single day to be important then becomes the producer of news through the selection of those stories. The success of a message as it is processed by the consumer/producer depends on each of the success previous processes used to create, communicate, and disseminate it.

Environment – this word for me has taken on new meaning after reading the McCluhan article. I have never thought about the idea of the artist as someone who creates the anti-environment, or even the concept of the creation of such a thing; how every new development building upon the old is the result of the creation of an anti-environment. This puts the world in a whole new prism for me. It parallels with the law of physics that states “for every action, there is a reaction.” For every environment, there is an anti-environment that continues to build upon what came before it and then becomes assimilated into reality or The Environment.

Luder’s differentiation of technology from product is important to me because the two are often used interchangeably in regards to forms of communication being actual technologies when in fact they are products of it. McCluhan spoke of children who are now growing up in a technological world that places them into the realm of being adults. Children are using “adult” forms of technology and will therefore no longer be as much a separate part of society, if separate at all. McCluhan also spoke of how we are geniuses until the age of five when we learn who to use our senses separately and compartmentalize learning and problem solving skills. I wonder how technology will helps us to reintegrate all of the facets of our minds? Will its products help us to become little geniuses again, the geniuses we were before we learned how to learn?

  8. Technology tends to be automatically associated with computers and such. While working on this post, I asked my roommate to define technology, to which she responded, “um…computers? Electronics? Right?” I expected this answer because, honestly, if asked on the spot, it is probably the same way I would respond. However, over the years, I’ve learned that technology can include a wide array of ‘things’ but, in broad and simple terms, it means advancement. I’ve been presented with this question before and (for the sake of being cheesy) it always brings to mind a quote from Steve Jobs:

“Technology is nothing. What’s important is that you have a faith in people, that they’re basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they’ll do wonderful things with them.”

With the dictionary definition of process being something along the lines of a series of steps taken in order to achieve a particular end. Well, interestingly enough, I never associated process with an end in mind. I’ve always thought of process as, as Bridget said so eloquently, as “ongoing ladder where new developments or discoveries can be made”. I think this speaks a great deal to the world of media, marketing, and communications. In the traditional sense of the word, process in regards to marketing, for example, can describe the physical and creative steps taken to develop and produce an idea, strategy, plan, etc. with that end goal in mind. However, there is always going to be the active process of developing new ideas and making new discoveries; something that is ongoing and has go end in sight.

I look at environment to mean the space in which we surround ourselves. Whether it be physical space, virtual space, etc. However, environment is not limited to the physical spaces around us. This includes the people we are surrounding ourselves with, the technologies, experiences, opportunities for growth, etc., proving that environment has a very broad definition.

  9. Process – a physical or psychological series of actions. A system of actions to complete an end product, contains a beginning, middle, and end. An opporunity to gain knowledge or experience.

Environment – location, generally physical or can be intangible. Sound, people, trees, ocean, land, sky, and grass are examples of a physcial environment. Education, serentity, and fun are environments that are intangible but can be held in a physical environment.

Technology – advancements in human knowledge in physcial form. Examples: wheel, pins, screws, aquaducts, computers, compasses, paper, written language, paints, paint brushes, fire, domesitication of animals, cars, bicycles, refridgerators, radio, electricity, television, cellphones, etc.

The importance of these words is that as technology advances, a process or environment can be altered. How we ask for time is no longer about reading the sun or sundial, but looking at a clock, watch, or cellphone. Growing corn has changed in their process due to technology. Environments change when technology is added, like a library for example. Locating books, articles, and magazines are organzied more efficiently or you have access to sources from other parts of the country or the world.

Of all the three words, process resonates deeply with me as I see myself going through a process of learning. My process is taking place in a new environment and I am being exposed to new technologies, something I am enjoying everyday.

  10. Process

Process allows for the linear or spherical train of thought in which things happen. When looking at process, everything depends on context. I most often associate process with emotions.

When going through the wave of emotions, we often being to process them through our initial reactions, the period of time in which we begin to actually think after reacting to our reactions and the closure in which we comes to some sort of clarity about an experience. We go through process as a sequence of actions whether emotional, physical or technical in the hopes of achieving something. At the very least, enjoying the journey in which we took to get there.

    Environment

The environment is the world around us. It is our physical world in which we operate day to day and within that world we have separate environments: our classes, our work, our research. Environments within environments. We all belong to microcosms of environments while simultaneously operating in the global environment. We have physical environments, our actual physical sense of place.

We have emotional environments, how we choose to conduct ourselves and construct our identities. The world environment helps to establish connectivity among ourselves as human race. We all experience environments differently even if we are living within the same physical space.

    technology

The study of all things tech. Technology is created by man, run by machine. We come to see that in the beginning technology was the creation of tools from natural resources.

Understanding the platform around which technology stands now is overwhelming. It exists within our environment, serving through venues that allows for interconnectivity and process to happen instantly.

Technology bridges communities together through communication accessibility and increasing availability through access to additional resources. The fusion of worlds seems to come together with technology being the bridge. As we process the new environments of what technology brings forth, we can begin to create new environments and conversations about how we confront this rapidly evolving process that affects everyone day by day.

  11. process

I think process means accumulation and creation and doing everything can’t leave this word. Process exists in the whole universe, not only in natural world, but also in virtual environment. In our reality world, only having “process” can provide everything that we use. House need process to be built, food need process to be produced, mountain need process to be formed, study need process to be absorbed. For the virtual world such as internet, it also need process to be set up by computer engineers and when we use it may appear progress bar that means we need to wait, which also can be seemed as process. Process is formed by accumulation, without time without process. But process may be so short just like a meteor across night sky, or it may be so long just like the formation of ice world. Although process wouldn’t be limited by time, it exactly needs time. For example, when I study Film and TV management in undergraduate, I participated some short films production that I experienced the process of making film. First of all, this process should have a detailed shooting plan including staff determination, shooting scenes and so on, and it also has an accurate financial budget before starting up. During film shooting period, it is a hardest process that requires crew resolve many unexpected problems and guarantee film quality before deadline. After shooting period, it will be cutting and promotion process. Only finishing these three processes, a good quality film can be on line. I think not just film, everything need process to create.

    environment

When I see this word, the first thing that comes to my mind is our living environment. But think again, environment has two definitions to me. First is our physical world that comes to my mind firstly. Every living things include human can’t leave physical environment for living. This environment is composed various ecological chains and then constitute a huge ecosphere. For me, my physical environment is I am in here, in America, a totally new environment for me. New friends, new classmates, new university, new study approach, new life style, these new fresh things consist my new environment. Second implication is virtual environment, which doesn’t exist in our real world, using philosophy word can say this environment is not in physical form. Internet is the most representative in virtual environment. With the entry into the era of Web 2.0, everyone hardly live conveniently without Internet. We use this kind of virtual environment to make life better.

    technology

Technology reflects the progress of the times, it could contains industrial technology, educational technology, computer technology and so on. From the reading material of McLuhan, he says medium shapes and controls the scale and form of human association and action. That gives me some thinking source. The development of technology can accelerate communication development. Then using communication facilities can enhance interpersonal relationship. This social demand also facilitates technologic progress. It is circle. There is an example about a film called Tiny Time directed by Mint.G, a new generation writer in China. This film is utilized network marketing way to gain successfully box office, although it is criticized seriously. This film team put some different versions of posters and prevues via internetwork, and applied an official sina weibo, which is the most popular social platform in China, like twitter. Through this platform he successfully attracted many audience before film on line, increased audiences’ interest, and finally gained 500 million RMB box office with 30 million cost investment. So if there is no technology no our today’s life.

  12. Process– a way to do something step by step. I have a process when I am packing my backpack or when I am thinking through an essay question. An artist also has a process, “artistic process” is likely the most relevant way to use the word. It is a way a person does their work one step at a time. When someone changes their process, many things can happen, breaking a rigid process and create a whole new way of doing something.

Environment– I automatically think of nature and the world around us. I think of environmental policies, ecology, and all associated sciences. But it does not have to be nature. A classroom is an environment, and one specifically for learning. A studio can be an environment for art. It can also be something that influences those associated with it. If I was creating some kind of art outside, I might be moved by the weather or the trees, if I was inside the library i may be inspired by the quiet clacking of many keyboards.

Technology–Computers, cell phones, tablets, things I only have a basic understanding of. Technology is what is changing our world day by day. As more advanced technology comes out it changes our ways of communication, learning, advertising, etc. Transmedia immediately comes to mind. With more and more platforms share information on, each can become a new way of showing art, advertising an art show, or sending pictures of an event.

  13. Process: When I think of the word process, I think of what the things I need to do to create an end result. The process being the tasks I need to accomplish in order to reach a goal. As Anne said “goals can be complicated or simple, have multiple phases or few, can be efficient of inefficient”. I this this is a very true statement. Processes are varying and differentiate based on the end result. For example, the process in creating a logo is complex and there are many stages of the process to get to a common goal. Looking at the article by Luders, the author states that there is a “…ongoing development of digital personal media” (Luders 2008 p. 684). This ‘ongoing development’ that Luders describes is considered a process. The need for a process is critical when trying to change a system or when developing something new.

Environment: The word environment makes me think of how environments influence decisions and behavior. To me, the environment represents a personal, individual expression of one’s surroundings. Looking at McLuhan article “Invisible Environments”, I am interested in the idea of Invisible environments and how they change how we encounter and interact with society. McLuhan says in the article that “Environments are not just containers, but are processes that change the content totally” (McLuhan 1967 p. 165). Environments change and adapt depending on the need for a new or altered society. As McLuhan points out, environment and process work together in that they both involve change and adaptability.

Technology: Technology also can be related to the words environment and process. In order to create new environments we need technology to help with the process. Technology to me, represents the invention of tools and resources needed to adapt to a constantly changing society or environment. As Bridget says “Technology grants access to copious amount of information…” This is very true in that technology can help us learn more about our society and the information produced. The word technology is interesting in that when I first think about the word, I think of computers, phones and other electrical devices. However, technology is also represented by the first tools used by humans and also the electrical devices we use today. Technology is used in the process of a changing environment.

  14. process – Process is vital to achieving results. It is more important to analyze process than it is to focus on the result, although results are important to understand, identify and think about as well. Process is very dynamic, dependent on many variables, and changes from person to person and project to project but it is vital to achieving any objective, whether that be design, programming or planning. Without solidifying process, whatever comes at the end won’t be worth considering at all. In art and design, sometimes process is the end game.

environment – We are a product of where we live and how we live. Environment dictates all. Environment dictates process. How do you generate specific processes to adapt and to achieve results within a specific environment? Environment is a key thing to take into consideration at all levels of marketing, planning and development. It is extremely important to marketing. Environment dictates how an audience will interact with your product or service and how they will interact with the marketing and promotion that you produce.

technology – A big term. Constantly developing. Technology is changing the way we live, learn, share, enjoy, express, consume, and digest information. It is constantly changing our every being. Artists are incorporating technology as art. It is art, as it has been created. Art administrators are finding new and unique ways to use technology to spread information, engage audiences, interact with constituents, and create content. It is now part of the essential fabric of who we are as human beings, and it is not going away. Where is it headed from here? How can we start to consider those technological advances prior to their arrival?

  15. Process—To doing something step by step, leading something to a product and results. When this word comes to an organization, no matter involve in the art, it, as my understanding, to be resulted as the goals of the organization, which can be their purpose, successfully target on marketing even as sample as sold out the products. Process in essential ,nothing can come out with an idea or a theory, things get better and processing with the steps.

Environment—have a lot to do with the surroundings, it can be huge or specific. When talking about a certain market, environment might suggest to the specific surrounding elements of the target market. It this is pointing out to a place, like a supermarket in the town, environment may include the populations of the town, ages of the local residents, the percentage of educated, climates, weather and histories. To define the environment of a project or an organization can help targeting the market ,which lead the project in a way it should be. And the big picture of the period generation is also important, this may lead to the definition of technology.

Technology—changes to world from period to period, in this way ,we may say, in some point, technology create the environment, under a graduate or generate speed. It can simply be tools to help us living a better while changing the way people think. We think differently than people back in 18th century, world becoming smaller due to communication technologies, eyes opening with high speed transportations , we no longer satisfied with the small towns we live in, we put our focus on the worldwide affairs. In summary , technology change the environment.

  16. Process: To be honest, talking about what is the “process” in my works is a little difficult for me. Then I look up and input it in the Webster Dictionary, it says the process is “a series of actions that produce something or that lead to a particular result: and a series of changes that happen naturally”. From this interpretation combining with course discussion, I think the “a series of actions or a series of changes” refers to an art processing, making, producing, exhibiting, discussing, and appreciating, “a particular result” means the final art work. In other words “naturally”, to some degree, reflecting the flexibility of the art process both in time and space. It means the steps you take to get your artwork done. For example, if someone wants to hold a painting exhibition, the whole process conceptual is not very narrow. Finding some person to make a group is the first step, discussing and determining the topic, communicating with some artists… Before the exhibition, every steps could called the process of this activities. However, on the exhibition, many different people with various background who interested in fine art may express their feelings or points, praise or criticize, talking to the author and painter without any time or space limitation. In art field, everyone could express their voice without any unnecessary consideration. All those process also called “art process”, an important factor in “particular result”.

Environment: The same in Webster Dictionary, the one is: the conditions that surround someone or something: the conditions and influences that affect the growth, health, progress, etc…of someone or something. Another refers to our natural world. In mass media, which need to communicating with each other, interpersonal communication, mass communication. Media creating an environment for public, and person could promote the formation of media or art circumstance on the contrary. Not only artists count to media environment factor, general people, citizen who has an emotion or some special feelings in art world also participate in it. In my opinion, there is no need to distinguish between personal media and mass media when talking about “environment”. Even both two rely on each other, according to the reading material, if Internet or Television, radio media called mass media, they have created some new personal media: blog, homepage, email, instant message…Our natural world has provide a good media or an art environment for us. There is no need to put some special or specific labels on it, anyone who love art, be curious about media world, doing some art work (just like interpreting a favorite loge as we have done in class) could enjoy in this invisible but amazing world.

Technology: “the use of science in industry, engineering, etc, to invent useful things or to solve problems. A machine, piece of equipment, method, etc, that is created by technology.” There are two related terms appeared in reading article, “media technology and media product”. In Thompson’s perspective, telephone and Internet are media technology; mobile conversation, MMS, homepage and blog are media products. Because a broaden understanding of technology including two aspects, we cannot talk about them separately. High-tech is a foundation of product, in opposite, the “machine” is the efficient market for development of technology. Like what Fletch said let students go out from studio to touch the real world, getting into community, city center square or create their own blog, sharing and recording the art world and art experience. He taught them how to apply such technology in society, how manage and show their art works and Idea. In art world, technology has many different categories, producing, programming, observation, communicating, managing… Application of some technology isn’t far away from us, just do something you can touch it, enjoy it, using it to built a wonderful media world.

  17. Process:
Longman dictionary defines process as:a series of actions that are done in order to achieve a particular result or a series of things that happen naturally and result in gradual change. From these definitions I can seen the process is a very crucial step when you want to achieve or complete one thing. In terms of communication, it can means the generation and dissemination of information, dialogue between people and so on. When person gets some information, how to emerge and spread? How people get it. These process of transmission both belongs to “process”. In Luders’ article he mentioned many times about communication and media. We are in the process of communication and spread every day, so the communication is not a simply exchange the information is like a bridge, people can get the results what they want although they through the same bridge but get the different results. So I think the “process” can be used as a verb and also essential element about communication.

    Environment:
Longman dictionary gives definition is the people and things that are around you in your life, for example the buildings you use, the people you live or work with, and the general situation you are in. For me, environment looks like the “atmosphere”. I am an affected person, for example, if my classmates and friends both use one app, so I will use it even I do not like this app. After reading the McCluhan article, I have a deeper understand about “environment”. Environment can be visible and invisible. I live in a new apartment and have 2 roommates ; the campus have a lot of trees and squirrels. These descriptions of living environment are both visible. I have never think that I had already living in the invisible environment before I read this article, I use my telephone everyday and I think I can not live without my cell-phone. I have many account like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, it’s like a personal space online but my friends all participate in. It looks like another form of social circle. But we don’ t know how the wide range of this circle. McLuhan indicates that new technology creates the new environment. Our living environment is slowly changing by these invisible environment.

    Technology:
Longman Dictionary defines is: new machines, equipment, and ways of doing things that are based on modern knowledge about science and computers. I think with the development of the technology, science and humans also progress. Nowadays, technology has already become an essential tool which we can contact with others and connect the whole world. Computer, cell-phone, Internet and so on. Both of these things we used everyday. Actually, technology has changed the world and the world is changing. Like the Mcluhan said, the new technology creates new environments, technology become a connection between the process and environments. It also has the ability to be the bridge connect our living environment and process of communication. So technology is a connecting link exists.

  18. Process–insomuch as that it is a word with a variety of uses, to me it most resonates with the phrase ‘creative process’, which is, in and of itself, not an easy thing to define. The creative process is different for each creative mind, each creative project, each creative aspect. I find the use of music and research to be most helpful in my creative processes though.

Environment–the physical and emotional region around a person. You can make great changes to your environment by changing the mood of it. Things like colour and other resonant aspects shape this, and different environments are suited to different activities.

Technology–to this I have but one thing to say: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” -Arthur C. Clarke

  19. Process- steps to achieve a specific outcome. The creative process for an art piece could include conceptualizing, gathering tools and the medium(s), and then using the tools and medium(s) to bring the conceptualized idea to life.

Environment- the habitat in which one resides physically and or mentally. Environment can be affected by people, things, colors, smells and a variety of other things. Many of us reside in multiple environments at the same time. The home environment, the work environment, the school environment, the social environment and many more.

Technology- iphone 6!! No one can’t function without technology. The earliest forms of technology were tools used by Homo Habilis. They used simple tools such as digging sticks and stone tools to make fire. This technology enabled them to forge for food more easily, fend off predators and eventually cook. Today, even if someone was dropped on a deserted island with no technology of any kind, they would find a way to make simple tools and fire before anything else, enabling them to live as opposed to dying from the elements.

  20. Process-subject to a process or treatment, with the aim of readying for some purpose, improving, or remedying a conditionmeans, like”operation”; “procedure”; “course”; “step”; “way”; “mode”,in my opinion, everything must have the “process“,Absence becomes presence, from quantitative change to qualitative change. And I think a lot of things are not necessarily to result of value, but more attention to the process.Like the creation of a work of painting, a great painting can never be done, there is always a lot of details that need to go perfect, complement and discover, so “stop” in “process” , more focus on the process rather than the result. So,i think a lot of interesting things are in the “process”actually,it is not important for result but process.

Environment-i think environmental include air, water, soil, plants, animals, and other content, but also includes the intangible factors of concepts, systems, codes of conduct as the content; both natural factors, including social factors. In my opinion, the environment is always the center of things with respect to certain terms. Environment from different centers of different things, changes with the change of the center of things. External space around the center of things, conditions and situations, the environment constitutes the center of things.

Technology-Technology Is a human in order to meet their own needs and desires, to follow the laws of nature, use and transform the nature in the long-term, accumulated knowledge, experience, skills and tools, is the sum of human use of natural transformation of natural methods,is the key of progress in this world, people use technology to achieve the ideal from reality.
